Make: Ruger

Model: No. 1 (01399)

Serial Number: 133-92810

Year of Manufacture: 2002

Caliber: .45-70 GOV’T

Action Type: Falling Block Single Shot

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-Line warning and Southport address. The left side of the barrel is marked with “.45-70 GOVT.”. The top of the receiver is marked “RUGER / NO. 1”. The bottom left of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 22”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, inserted and pinned to an integral barrel ring. The rear sight is an adjustable flip-up U-notch sight with a white diamond aiming reference, dovetailed to the quarter rib, which is also set up for Ruger-style scope rings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece laminate wood, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show some slight swelling from humidity, and corrosion on the rear sling stud. There are no chips or cracks. The stocks fit the frame tightly, with no play. Overall, the stocks rate in Fair condition, due to the slight swelling from humidity.

Type of Finish: Stainless

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there are patches of corrosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows patchy surface corrosion throughout the barrel, trigger guard, lever, quarter rib, and receiver. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp, but are also corroded.. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair to Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, owner’s manual/paperwork, scope rings, and gun lock.

Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a modern interpretation of the classic falling-block single-shot—a rigid, one-piece action designed for direct sighting, precise lockup, and strong inherent accuracy. This stainless, laminate-stock example in .45-70 GOV’T presents the model’s clean lines and purposeful simplicity with a 22? barrel and Ruger-style quarter-rib provision for rings; it is offered complete with its original box, manual, gun lock and scope rings, retaining the No. 1’s straightforward, no-nonsense construction and easy serviceability.

Chambered for .45-70 Government — the large-bore service cartridge adopted by the U.S. in 1873 and prized for heavy bullets and hard-hitting performance at moderate ranges — this piece is a stout single-shot platform for heavy-bullet applications. cosmetically it retains roughly 95% of its stainless finish but shows patchy surface corrosion across the barrel and receiver and some pitting under the forend; the bore exhibits areas of corrosion and is conservatively rated 7/10. The laminate stocks fit tightly but show minor swelling around the tangs and forend joints and are therefore rated Fair; included paperwork and original box add completeness to the lot. Once the corrosion and pitting is addressed and/or fixed, this rifle would make a great addition to a Ruger No. 1 collection.
