The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with scattered dings, scratches and pressure dents throughout, but most notably on the comb and belly of the buttstock. The gloss finish is strong throughout. The checkering is well defined. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with a few scattered scratches on the barrel, and some light operational wear on the friction portions of the action. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tooled, but all retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Schultz & Larsen M65DL represents the peak of postwar Danish sporting rifle design — an elegant fusion of precision machining, fine woodwork, and Continental styling. Built in Otterup, Denmark between 1959 and 1965, these rifles were produced in relatively small numbers, earning a reputation among knowledgeable shooters for their superb accuracy, smooth cycling, and impeccable fit and finish. The M65 action, derived from the earlier M60 and M52 target rifles, features an extremely strong three-lug bolt and a crisp, adjustable trigger system that set a high standard for European hunting rifles of its time.

Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, this rifle combines European refinement with one of America’s most enduring and versatile cartridges. The .30-06, adopted by the U.S. military in 1906, remains a benchmark for power, accuracy, and balance, capable of handling nearly any game in the Northern Hemisphere. This particular M65DL exhibits all the hallmarks of Schultz & Larsen craftsmanship — deeply blued metalwork, fine checkering, and striking figured maple complemented by walnut accents and an ivory insert at the pistol grip. The Redfield wide-angle 3–9x scope adds a nice touch and excellent optical utility.

With 98% of its original finish remaining, a mirror-bright bore, and crisp mechanics, this Danish-made classic stands as a fine example of European sporting excellence during a golden age of rifle building. Whether appreciated for its craftsmanship, collectibility, or field capability, the M65DL remains one of the most refined hunting rifles of its generation.
