Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with ”MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA / — WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL—-” “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK ” logo and “MODEL—70 –.30-06 SPFLD”. The left side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER” ®. The right side of the chamber is marked with the serial number “325767”. The bolt is pencil etched with the matching serial number “325767”. There are “WP” Winchester proof marks on the barrel and receiver.
Barrel Length: 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade sight fixed to the top of a serrated ramp with slots for a hood (not included.) The rear sight is a flip up semi-Buckhorn sight with a white triangle to help sighting. The receiver has four tapped and filled screw holes for a scope mount.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered Walnut with a raised comb, Satin finish with a semi pistol grip, steel checkered buttplate, and two sling loops. There are nicks, scratches and compression dings throughout from normal operational wear. Finish wear is heavier on the pistol grip and buttstock. The checkering is mildly worn from use. The LOP measures approximately 13 5/8 ” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no significant chips or cracks present aside from small nicks.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and shiny and the rifling is sharp with some wear on the rifling near the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original finish. There is some thinning of finish on the barrel and the bottom metal. The receiver is a matt finish with thinning on the leading edges. The WP proof marks are sharp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good to Fine condition as a C&R.
Mechanics: The action functions as intended. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

It is a highly desirable Pre-64 Model 70 in a caliber capable of taking most North American game. For the hunter seeking a hunting rifle that will pack a punch, this example in .30-06 remains an excellent option.
