Stock Configuration & Condition:
The select walnut stock and forend feature sharply cut checkering and rich figure. A small patch of green verdigris residue is present at the receiver/forend junction from long-term storage. Otherwise, the finish is strong, with only minor surface handling. The medallion remains crisp and well defined.
Finish Originality: Original Factory Finish.
Overall Condition:
This rifle retains approximately 98% of its metal finish. The blued barrel and magazine tube remain deep and glossy, while the receiver’s brushed-nickel finish shows minimal handling. Small areas of light oxidation are visible near the forward receiver edges. Screw heads are sharp, and all markings and engravings are clear.
Bore Condition:
The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Mechanics:
The action functions correctly with smooth lever operation, solid lock-up, and a crisp trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
Included are the original Winchester Bicentennial sleeve box with colorful historical artwork, factory styrofoam insert, brown paper wrapping, commemorative hang tag, and the original wall display rack.
Our Assessment:
The Winchester Model 1894 Bicentennial ’76 Commemorative pays tribute to 200 years of American independence and over 80 years of Winchester lever-action tradition. Produced in 1976 at the New Haven plant, this limited-edition rifle captures the essence of the Winchester legacy with its combination of brushed-nickel receiver, deeply blued barrel, and fine walnut stock. The .30-30 Winchester cartridge—introduced by Winchester in 1895—was the first American sporting cartridge to use smokeless powder and quickly became synonymous with deer hunting and the American frontier.
This commemorative carbine, adorned with patriotic engravings and an embossed medallion, stands as both a firearm and a piece of Americana, celebrating the craftsmanship and ideals that shaped the nation. With its original packaging and near-new condition, it offers collectors a complete, historically rich example of Winchester’s commemorative artistry.
