Engraving:   The rifle is fully engraved and finished in Gold with silver accents by A&A Engraving, Inc, Rapid City S.D.  The left side of the receiver features the banner “LEGENDARY LAWMEN & OUTLAWS OF THE OLD WEST” with portraits of Bat Masterson, Pat Garrett, Wild Bill Hickock, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, with a floral engraved backgound. The right side of the receiver has portraits of Billy the Kid, John Wesley Hardin, Jesse James and the famous group picture of Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch, along with a “Wanted Dead or Alive” wanted poster and a couple ominous tombstones.  The rifle is numbered “85 out of 300” under the front of the receiver.  

Markings: The bottom of the receiver in front of the lifter is marked “85 of 300”.  The top of the barrel is marked “TAYLOR & CO WINCHESTER VIRGINIA/ A. UBERTI ITALY”.  The bottom of the receiver behind the lifter is marked “CAT.5989”. The lower tang is marked with the serial number “W39882” and “A. UBERTI ITALY”. The upper tang is marked “MODEL 1873”.  Behind the lifter the engraver has marked “A&A Engraving, Inc, Rapid City S.D./ AMERICA REMEMBERS / AHL INC. ASHLAND, VA”.  

Barrel Length: 20-inch Octagonal barrel

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel.  The rear sight is a full buckhorn square notch elevator sight that is dovetailed to the receiver.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are smooth deluxe wood with a gold- capped forearm, straight wrist, straight comb, and a gold crescent rifle buttplate. The wood shows no notable imperfections nor damage. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the end of the gold buttplate. The plate shows no notable wear. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: 24-carat gold (receiver, lever, hammer, buttplate, forearm cap and magazine cap.,  Blued barrel and tubular magazine.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.  

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 99% of its gold finish and silver accents. There are no major imperfections to speak of. The gold finish is in exceptional condition showing no wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever safety and lever lock are present. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.
