Overall the stock is in Fair+ condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with well defined to sharp rifling. There is very minor visible pitting and some fouling in the grooves of the rifling. According to our gauges the muzzle reads at a 3 and the throat at 7. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 4.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 55% of its metal finish. The entire surface of the rifle shows finish thinning and rub marks from what appears to be an attempt to remove the browning and patina on the metal. The bolt and friction surfaces show rub wear. The trigger group retains almost all its finish and includes a WINTER TRIGGER! The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. The action is smooth. Overall this rifle is in Fair+ condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a Green CMP case, 3 en bloc clips, green canvas sling, manual, the winter trigger, a K-M5A1 bayonet, USM8A1 scabbard, the reproduction m84 scope with mount, leather cheek piece and an allen wrench.
Our Assessment: This Springfield M1D sniper rifle was originally manufactured in October 1944 and converted to M1D specification sometime after January 1952, pairing a Springfield receiver with a correctly dated 1-52 barrel stamped “D 7312555 M1 D-A160-” in the correct location for an M1D from 1952. The rifle is fitted with a reproduction M84 scope and mount, a leather cheekpiece for consistent eye-to-optic alignment, and a winter trigger, a rare and functional addition that allows operation while wearing gloves in cold conditions.
The M1D was developed late in World War II as a scoped sniper adaptation of the M1 Garand, providing precision capability by mounting optics directly to a block rather than drilling and tapping the action like the M1C. M1D conversions were limited, making correctly dated and stamped examples highly collectible. General George S. Patton, famously praised the M1 Garand, stating “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.” This rifle exemplifies that legacy, combining historical authenticity with functional upgrades for precision shooting.
