Our Assessment: The Beretta 626 is a side-by-side made by the world’s oldest gun maker, Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta. It shows the pride of craftsmanship one would expect of a gunmaker that is still family-owned after 500 years (technically 499… but you get the point). It was exported to the US in the late 80s and early 90s and never caught on. It is sufficiently obscure that a question on a gun forum about it recently received a lot of information on….a 686.
This particular 626 is chambered in 20 gauge, is matte blue, and has machine-turned barrel flats. It locks up very tight and its balance is a joy to hold. It weighs in at 6 lb, 6 oz but seems lighter, probably due to its balance. It safes itself automatically when opened and selective ejectors. This writer noticed a reluctance in the inertial triggers to offer the second barrel, but I was not at the range and was only simulating recoil.
Fans of Beretta or those in need of a stylish upland gun for their grouse or quail hunting would be well-served by this fine Italian import still in excellent condition. Please see our photos. -CB
