The underside of the cylinder also bears a Colt inspector’s “A.” Factory patent and caliber markings are crisp and correct for the 1894 production period.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains approximately 40–45% of its original blue finish, showing scattered thinning and patina consistent with honest carry and age. Case-hardening colors remain faintly visible on the hammer and trigger. Screw heads are serviceable. The markings are crisp and legible throughout.

Mechanics: The cylinder latch, extractor, and double-action trigger all function smoothly. Timing and lock-up are satisfactory. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:
The Colt Model 1892 marked a watershed in revolver design as Colt’s first successful double-action with a swing-out cylinder, a system that set the standard for the next century of service handguns. This early production example from 1894 predates the 1898 legal cutoff, qualifying it as an antique. Chambered for the distinctive .41 Colt cartridge, it bridges the transition between black-powder and smokeless loads and was favored by both civilians and officers seeking a fast-handling revolver with moderate recoil.

Examples such as this one—bearing matching assembly numbers and intact Colt hard-rubber grips—illustrate the formative engineering that led to the later Models 1894 through 1905. The smooth double-action system, patent legends, and early four-line barrel address all speak to Colt’s precision at the dawn of the modern revolver era.

This is a solid, authentic representative of the early Colt New Army & Navy lineage, blending historical importance with genuine frontier-period character. So bid high and bid firm. I encourage you to take a look at the condition of the revolver in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
