Our Assessment: The Sharps New Model rifles and carbines were made in three models: 1859, 1863 and 1993-2015. From Flayderman’s, over 100,000 of the 1859 and 1863 models were purchased by the U.S. Army and Navy during the Civil War. This is an Italian-made reproduction of the Model 1859 from Pedersoli. It has a .54 Caliber bore and while it is a percussion rifle, it loads from the breech. The bore is great, the mechanics are strong and there is little to no sign of use since leaving the factory. This will make a great example of the Sharps 1859 Carbine that you can shoot without worrying about hurting an original piece. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
