Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked ‘BB22898”, “dp”, “PEDERSOLI – ITALY/22 CAL.75 / BLACK POWDER ONLY”. The lock plate is marked “GRICE 1762” with a “GR” Crown.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a rectangular block fixed to the barrel. There is no rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stock is one piece walnut with side plate, lock plate, straight grip, straight raised comb, brass buttplate, brass capped forend, four brass ramrod pipes, sling ring on the forend, sling loop integral to the front of the trigger guard, and installed ramrod. There are light scratches and pressure dents throughout. There are no cracks, but there are a few small chips. The LOP is 14.5 from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall this stock rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The smoothbore is bright with no erosion. There is some rust freckles in the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This musket retains about 97% of its finish. There is some general operation wear on the frizzon. There are spots of rust mainly focused around the lock plate. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall this musket rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this musket. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. The flint/frizzon spark well.

Our Assessment: The Pedersoli Grice 1762 Second Model Brown Bess is a modern Italian reproduction of the iconic British military musket that saw service throughout the latter half of the 18th century and well into the Napoleonic era. The original Brown Bess muskets were issued widely to British line infantry, colonial militias, and loyalist regiments during the American Revolutionary War, making them a cornerstone of 18th-century military history. This particular model replicates the Second Model, also known as the Short Land Pattern, featuring a 42-inch barrel and iron or brass hardware. Pedersoli’s execution of this design delivers historical accuracy with high-quality modern materials and craftsmanship. Manufactured in 2022, this example remains in excellent overall condition, with about 97% of its original finish retained. The barrel, left “in the white” as was historically appropriate, shows only light oxidation around the lock area and minor freckling near the muzzle. The lock plate is marked “GRICE 1762” with a “GR” crown emblem, reproducing the markings associated with Grice, a known British contractor of the era. The bore is bright and smooth, with minimal signs of use, and the lock sparks well, indicating a functional ignition system. The walnut stock is solid with only light pressure marks and minor chips, retaining its crisp edges and pleasing fitment to the brass furniture.
