The case color is still present on the receiver and lever with some light to mild muting and oxidation throughout, especially in the high handling areas. The barrel holds most of its blue with some gentle thinning throughout and intermittent oxidation. The screw heads are sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its attached scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: This Marlin Model 1893 Carbine is a well-executed early 20th-century lever gun, produced circa 1907–1908 and chambered in .38-55 Winchester — a classic hunting round noted for moderate recoil and good down-range performance from a 26″ half-round/half-octagon barrel. This example wears its age honestly: approximately 80% of the metal finish remains with pleasant case color on the receiver and lever, the bore is bright with sharp rifling but shows fouling and rates 8/10, and the walnut stocks, refinished, present well though there is loss at the top left corner of the wrist and evidence of light sanding. The fitted WM. Malcolm 6x scope and tang mount bring modern utility to the period platform and broaden the rifle’s appeal to hunters and target shooters who appreciate classic lines with practical sighting.

Mechanically the action functions correctly, the lever locks up solidly, and the hammer includes a half-cock safety, all of which underscore this carbine’s readiness for service or display. For collectors this is a desirable early Marlin in attractive, honest condition that balances original metal and original case coloring with a sympathetically refinished stock and period hardware. For shooters the combination of a serviceable bore, effective .38-55 chambering, and a 6x scope make it useful afield as a straight-forward hunting carbine.
