Markings: The left side of the left barrel is marked “30-06 Spring”. The right side of the right barrel is marked “USSG – ROCKLEDGE, FL. IMZ RUSSIA / READ OWNER’S MANUAL BEFORE USE”. The left side of the receiver is marked “MR 221 MP-221”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “Baikal / MP-221 / Made in Russia”. The top tang is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 23 1/2″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable post seated in a serrated ramp integral to the front barrel band. The rear sight is a square-notch sight dovetailed and screwed to the barrel’s ventilated quarter rib. The quarter rib is grooved with a notch at the rear for installing an optic mount (none present).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered wood with semi-pistol grip, straight comb, ventilated rubber buttpad, checkered detachable forend, and sling rings front and rear. The stocks show minor wear, with only a couple of minor small pressure dents on the buttstock and forend. The finish is strong throughout, and the checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The stocks fit the frame tightly, with no play. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in either bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99%+ of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. The pins are unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. Both triggers have a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Baikal MP-221 is a modern, workmanlike interpretation of the classic side-by-side double rifle — rugged, straightforward, and built for hunters who prize immediate, instinctive firepower. As inspected this example is exceptionally well preserved — around 99% original blued finish, sharp checkering and fit, and bores that present bright with deep rifling, which in this writer’s opinion rate 10/10. Both triggers break crisp and clean, the tang safety functions correctly on bench check, and the action opens, extracts, and locks up as intended; there are no chips or cracks in the stocks and the forend fits tightly. We did not fire the rifle, but our mechanics check indicates a sound, shootable example.
For the practical hunter or the collector seeking a modern double, this MP-221 represents an attractive, immediately serviceable value: near-mint cosmetics, perfect bores, correct period fitments and dual-trigger control will satisfy anyone looking for a break-action big-game tool without paying a premium for provenance.
