The LOP is 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt pad. The upper handguard is almost split in half with a crack that runs right down the middle of the sighting groove. The metal from the front and back appear to be holding the handguard together. The stock has been sanded and refinished. The stock shows minor handling and minor signs of wear with no notable marks or marrs. The butt plate has lost finish and shows rub wear around the edges. Overall the handguard is in Poor condition while the stock is in Very Good+ condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is defined. There is no visible erosion. There is some minor pitting, nicks, and lines from use in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains 70% of its finish. The surface of the rifle shows finish thinning throughout. The finish has turned brown and green with oil and age. The bolt and receiver show rub wear on the friction surfaces. The inside of the action and trigger show debris and will need to be cleaned. The markings range from faint to clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Fair+ to Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a sling, oiler, and canvas zipper bag.
Our Assessment: This 1945 Winchester M1 Carbine is a late-war production of America’s lightweight, semi-automatic carbine chambered in .30 Carbine. This example retains the model’s defining features and is fitted with a Hillerich & Bradsby stock, the same firm known for Louisville Slugger baseball bats, giving the carbine a distinctive furniture origin and adding a notable piece of industrial crossover history to its appearance.
David Marshall Williams developed and patented the short-stroke gas system that became central to the M1 Carbine’s action, and his work was licensed to the program so contractors could produce a compact, reliable operating mechanism at scale. The M1 Carbine was adopted to provide a lightweight, semi-automatic arm with more reach and firepower than a pistol while remaining far more maneuverable than a rifle, and it served extensively in World War II, Korea, and in allied inventories thereafter. This 1945 Winchester, with its period production attributes and the unusual Hillerich & Bradsby stock, exemplifies both the engineering innovations behind the carbine and the varied industrial contributions that kept U.S. small arms in service during and after the war.
