Markings: The revolver is marked with the serial number on the butt of the grip frame “US GWS1804”. The left side of the barrel is marked “.45 S&W”. The right side of the barrel extension is marked “SCHOLFIELD PAT. APR. 22 1873”. Standard Smith & Wesson and model markings are present and clearly legible.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a half-moon blade fixed to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a notch integral to the barrel catch assembly.
Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut panels with a rich grain and attractive finish. The grips exhibit minimal handling marks, and no chips or cracks are present. Overall, the grips rate in about Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Blued, with Case-Colored Hammer and Trigger Guard
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is no fouling or erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains approximately 98% of its original metal finish. The blued finish shows minimal handling marks. There is a small nick on the left side of the rib in the mid length. There is a turn line on the cylinder. The case coloring on the hammer and trigger guard remains vivid and attractive. The screw heads are sharp and unmarred. Pins are clean, and markings are crisp and clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent to Like-New condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up tightly, and the extraction mechanism operates smoothly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

This particular example, serial number US GWS1804, is in virtually pristine condition, showcasing nearly all its original finish and a perfect bore.
