Our Assessment: This Ruger No. 1, chambered in .243 Winchester and manufactured in 1976, features a 26″ barrel that maximizes velocity and accuracy from this flat-shooting cartridge. It is stocked in checkered walnut with a capped semi-pistol grip stock, maintaining the refined and classic lines of the No. 1 platform. The rifle is topped with a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x scope, equipped with a duplex reticle, objective-mounted parallax adjustment, and precise 1/4 MOA adjustments, making this setup ideal for both varmint hunting and medium-game applications where precision at range is key.

The Ruger No. 1 was first introduced in 1967 as Bill Ruger’s homage to the British Farquharson falling-block rifles of the late 19th century. Its strong, simple, and elegant falling-block action allows for a compact overall length, even with longer barrels, and has been chambered in a vast range of cartridges from small varmint rounds to dangerous game calibers. Rifles made in 1976 bear the desirable “Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty” barrel marking, further adding to their collectibility. This .243 example exemplifies the No. 1’s reputation as a finely crafted single-shot rifle that blends traditional styling with modern precision.
