Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with Remington’s 2-Line Warning and address, along with “25-06 REM.”, and the DK date code. The right side of the barrel is marked with a series of proofs. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and “REMINGTON / MODEL 700”.

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold 12x scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. Overall, the scope is in Excellent condition. 

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stock is one-piece checkered walnut with semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, brown rubber buttpad, and a sling stud in the belly. The sling stud that should be in the forend is missing. The LOP measures 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with only a few very minor scattered dings and superficial scratches. The finish on the stock is strong throughout. The checkering is sharp and well defined. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp.  There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operational wear, and some finish thinning on the trigger guard and floorplate. The jeweling on the bolt remains vivid and bright. The bluing on the barrel and receiver remains strong and dark throughout. The finish on the bolt handle is turning to a patina. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition. 

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington Model 700 is one of the most widely respected American sporting rifles of the 20th century, renowned for its accuracy, strength, and versatility. Introduced in 1962 and still in production today, the Model 700 has been offered in countless chamberings and stock configurations, but the CDL (“Classic Deluxe”) line represents its traditional hunting roots: blued steel, walnut stock, and a hinged floorplate. Chambered here in .25-06 Remington, this rifle is set up for the hunter who values flat-shooting performance across open country.

The .25-06 Remington is itself a storied cartridge. Developed as a wildcat in the early 20th century and standardized by Remington in 1969, it is based on the .30-06 case necked down to .257 caliber. The result is a fast, flat-shooting round that excels on varmints, coyotes, and medium-sized game such as pronghorn and deer, while still carrying enough punch for larger game with proper bullets. It has long been a favorite among western hunters for its reach across open prairies and high country basins, where minimal holdover and mild recoil provide a distinct edge.

This particular Model 700 CDL, manufactured in September 1990, features a 24” barrel that takes full advantage of the .25-06’s high velocity potential. Its walnut stock is well-preserved, with sharp checkering and only minor signs of field use. Mechanically, it remains in excellent condition with a bright 10/10 bore and crisp trigger. The rifle retains about 98% of its original blued finish, with only light operational wear and faint thinning on the floorplate. Topping the rifle is a Leupold 12x scope—an optic well-suited to the cartridge’s long-range capabilities, offering a clear sight picture and precise aiming for open-country shooting.
