Our Assessment: This Peters Stahl 1911 multi-caliber kit from 1988 is a German-built precision pistol package designed around the 1911 platform, notable for its engineering quality and versatility. This example includes dedicated slides, barrels, and magazines to convert the pistol between .45 ACP, 9mm, .38 wadcutter, and .22 LR. The centerfire barrels are polygonal rifled, a design feature Peters Stahl was well known for, providing excellent gas seal, extended barrel life, and superior accuracy compared to traditional rifling. The inclusion of .38 wadcutter reflects the pistol’s strong orientation toward competitive target shooting, as that cartridge was widely used in precision disciplines.

Built in Germany in 1988, this pistol represents Peters Stahl’s peak era of production, when the company established itself as a manufacturer of high-grade, custom-level 1911 variants. Their designs emphasized tight tolerances, advanced metallurgy, and modularity well ahead of the broader market trend. The multi-caliber kit concept allowed shooters to use a single serialized frame while competing or training with multiple calibers, from inexpensive .22 LR practice to full-power .45 ACP. Today, such kits are rare and collectible, both for their technical innovation and for Peters Stahl’s reputation in the high-end 1911 community.
