Our Assessment: This Mauser P.08 is a solid representative of the WWII-era German service pistol, manufactured in 1941 at Mauser’s Oberndorf factory and marked with the correct “byf 41” wartime code. The presence of matching numbers throughout, even on the internals, makes this example especially appealing to collectors, as many battlefield-captured Lugers were later mismatched during arsenal repairs or postwar use. The blued finish shows honest handling wear and oxidation consistent with wartime service, yet the clear Waffenamt markings and eagle acceptance stamps remain intact, lending the pistol strong historical authenticity. The bore shows some wear and erosion but remains quite serviceable, rating about 6/10, which is not uncommon for a pistol of this age that may have seen actual field use.

As an artifact, this Luger has both technical and historical significance. The P.08 was Germany’s iconic sidearm of both World Wars, carried by soldiers and officers alike, and this 1941-dated example falls in the period of peak German wartime expansion. Its originality, matching numbers, and wartime production date make it a strong addition to any WWII collection. Whether valued as a shooter-grade collectible or preserved as a historical piece, this Luger embodies the engineering, heritage, and storied history that continues to make P.08 pistols among the most recognizable and sought-after military sidearms.
