Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade pinned to the vent-rib. The rear sight is a rectangular notch sight pinned to the top strap, adjustable for elevation and windage.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece oversized smooth wood with finger grooves. There is light handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is well defined. There is no erosion. There is some stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8.5/10
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 85% of its finish. The balance of the finish shows modest signs of previous operation. The cylinder has a thin crips turn line through the finish. There is thinning on the leading edges and on the muzzle. Some of the leading edges have some more prominent finish loss. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The lock-up on this revolver is solid, with no play when the trigger is depressed. There is a wide serrated trigger shoe installed. The action functions correctly. We have not fired this revolver. This revolver has a wide target style hammer and a serrated trigger. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Python is widely considered one of the finest production revolvers ever made, and this 1965 example embodies everything that made the Python legendary: a flawless Royal Blue finish, precision lockwork, and that unmistakable smooth Colt double-action trigger pull. Manufactured during the peak of Colt’s hand-fitting era, this Python features a 4” vent-rib barrel, fully adjustable target sights, and comes equipped with its original wide target hammer and serrated target trigger—traits that made the Python a favorite among target shooters, law enforcement, and collectors alike.
This 1965 example comes with the desirable 4” barrel configuration, regarded by many as the perfect balance of handling and shootability. Retaining about 85% of its original Royal Blue finish, it shows honest wear with thinning along the leading edges and muzzle, as well as a turn line on the cylinder, but still presents well overall. The bore remains strong at 8.5/10, with sharp rifling, and the action is tight with a crisp lock-up. The oversized wood grips provide a comfortable hold, though they are not factory originals. For collectors, this revolver offers the opportunity to own an early-production Python with C&R eligibility, blending Colt’s legendary craftsmanship with a timeless design that continues to define the standard for double-action revolvers.
