Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with only a few scattered hairline scratches on the receiver and barrel. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. The pins are unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Our Assessment:  The Winchester Model 64 was introduced in 1933 as an updated and streamlined version of the iconic Model 1894, built for hunters who wanted a lever-action with sleeker lines and improved handling. Retaining the proven ’94 action, the Model 64 featured a semi-pistol grip stock, half-magazine, and ramped front sight, giving it a more modern look and feel for its era. Produced until 1957, the Model 64 never sold in the same numbers as the 1894, but it has since become a highly desirable rifle for both collectors and hunters due to its limited production and elegant styling.

This example, chambered in .32 Winchester Special, is particularly appealing. The cartridge was introduced in 1901 as a slightly larger bore alternative to the .30-30 Winchester, intended to offer better performance with cast bullets and more knockdown power for deer and black bear hunters. The 24” barrel provides excellent sight radius and velocity, while the bore on this rifle remains bright with sharp rifling, rating 9.5/10.

Condition-wise, this rifle is extremely well preserved for its age. Retaining about 98% of its original blued finish, it shows only minor handling marks and a few faint scratches. The walnut stocks are solid with no cracks or chips, showing honest field wear but still well above average for a rifle of this vintage. Mechanically, the action is smooth and functions correctly with a positive half-cock safety.

For the Winchester enthusiast, this Model 64 in .32 Winchester Special represents an outstanding example of one of Winchester’s more uncommon classic lever-actions. With its excellent finish, strong bore, and originality, it would be equally at home as a working deer rifle or as a highlight in a Winchester collection.
