Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal buttplate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The wood shows scratches, compressions, nicks, and discoloration from age throughout. There are no notable chips and no visible cracks. The storage compartment has the multi tool and metal oiler. The buttplate has lost its finish and developed surface oxidation. Overall the stock set is in Good+ condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is almost semi bright and the rifling is well defined. There is visible pitting, erosion, and rust throughout the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 0 and a throat erosion of 0 which is amazing considering the visual appearance of the bore but may be caused by the rust. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The exterior of the rifle shows minimal wear, marks and signs of use. Even the friction surfaces show only minor wear. The wings of the front sight show some dings, the gas plug and lock show some marks with finish loss. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Visually from the outside the rifle is in Very Good+ condition. However considering the condition of the bore the rifle is in Good+ condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a leather sling and the cleaning tools listed about.
Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in June 1945 and is fitted with a Springfield barrel dated April 1945, a pairing entirely consistent with late-war assembly. It wears a Red River Arsenal (“RRA”) marked stock, indicating post-war inspection or refurbishment at that depot, a common fate for rifles that remained in service through the late 1940s and beyond. Notably, it retains the desirable lock-bar “battle range” rear sight, prized for its robust adjustments and WWII-correct appearance. Overall, the configuration reflects a late-production wartime rifle that later passed through stateside arsenal care while keeping key period features.
The M1 Garand, adopted in 1936, was the U.S. military’s first standard-issue semi-automatic service rifle and saw extensive service in World War II and Korea. Renowned for reliability, speed, and ruggedness, its eight-round en-bloc clip and gas-operated action gave American infantry a firepower advantage over bolt-action-equipped adversaries. Variants and updates appeared over time, but core design traits, strong sights, durable walnut stocks, and a smooth-cycling action, made the M1 an enduring icon. A 1945 Springfield with a contemporaneous barrel, arsenal-marked stock, and lock-bar sight neatly embodies that history while offering both collector interest and classic Garand character.
