Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed partridge sight. The rear sight is a pinned square notch with adjustable elevation and windage.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth wood. There are minimal handling marks present. There are no chips or cracks present. The grips fit the frame with no movement. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Two tone
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is defined. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of finish shows very light wear from handling and storage. The screw heads are sharp with turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action does function correctly. The safety does function correctly. We did not fire this handgun. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Original serial matching box, manual, one 9-round magazine, and a factory letter.
Our Assessment: Colt Gold Cup National Match pistols were the benchmark standard for a .45 Auto target pistol for decades. With hand-fitted parts, match grade barrels and bushings, adjustable target sights and a wider trigger adjustable for over-travel, they came from Colt’s factory with upgrades you could spend more than the price of the pistol to have done by a gunsmith on a standard 1911.
This example is a little more special than your standard GCNM. It is the Gold Cup Elite IX National Match, part of the Elite Gold Cup series—a special edition contracted by AcuSport in the 1980s. The Elite pistols were produced in .45, 9mm, and .38 Super, all with a striking two-tone finish and smooth wood grips. The series had limited production; only 750 were made in 9mm like this one.
This particular pistol is in Excellent condition, with its original serial-matching box—ideal for the serious Colt collector. Please see our photos and good luck! – C.R.
