Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 15% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows moderate to heavy wear, with most of the finish having worn off of the entire firearm. Where there is finish present, the finish has turned to a patina. There are scratches and dings throughout the metal surfaces. Overall, this pistol rates in about Good to Very good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly; the slide retracts, the magazine drops free and the hammer and trigger operate correctly, although we have not test-fired this gun, we did perform a mechanic’s check. The safety also functions as a decocking lever.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This handgun comes with one 7rd magazine as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: Walther’s PPK (Polizeipistole Kriminalmodell) stands as one of the most iconic handguns of the 20th century. Originally introduced in 1931 as a more compact version of the PP (Polizeipistole), the PPK quickly became a favorite among European law enforcement, German military officers, and even the German high command during the Second World War. This 1942-manufactured example was produced during the height of wartime demand and bears German Waffenamt military acceptance marks, indicating issue to the Wehrmacht. Its chambering in 7.65mm (.32 ACP) was standard for these sidearms during the period and was favored for its mild recoil and reliable performance in compact semi-autos.
Although this PPK has seen considerable wear, retaining only around 15% of its original blue finish, the matching numbered frame and slide, clear markings, sharp rifling, and strong mechanical condition make it a desirable historical piece. These wartime PPKs remain in high demand due to their ties to both the German military and post-war intelligence and espionage lore, made even more famous by their association with fictional MI6 agent James Bond.
For collectors focused on WWII German arms or Walther enthusiasts, this PPK offers a chance to own an authentic, wartime-produced sidearm with all the right hallmarks of military provenance. Despite its cosmetic wear, its intact mechanicals and well-preserved bore speak to the durability and legacy of this storied pistol.
