Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 54 was the company’s first successful civilian bolt-action rifle, laying the groundwork for the legendary Model 70. Offered in various chamberings, the .22 Hornet variant is among the most desirable for collectors due to its early introduction of centerfire small game and varmint cartridges to the sporting market.
Whether you’re a vintage Winchester collector, a .22 Hornet enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates pre-war sporting rifles, this Model 54 represents a fine piece of American gunmaking history and remains a shootable, collectible, and increasingly scarce classic. Be sure to check our detailed pictures for a better understanding of the firearm. -C.R.
