Our Assessment: The Remington Model 673 Guide Gun is a modern throwback to the company’s classic 1960s Model 600 and 660 rifles, particularly with its distinctive ventilated rib barrel, laminated stock, and short, handy profile. Introduced in the early 2000s, the 673 blended nostalgic styling with updated manufacturing techniques, producing a rifle that appealed to both hunters and collectors. Chambered here in the potent 6.5mm Remington Magnum—a cartridge that never quite saw widespread adoption but is beloved by aficionados for its flat trajectory and impressive downrange energy—this rifle offers a combination of retro aesthetics and serious ballistic performance.
The 22-inch vent-rib barrel and laminated stock with integral cheekpiece are as much about function as they are about style. The rib reduces mirage and glare, the laminate offers strength and stability in changing weather conditions, and the rifle’s light weight makes it a natural choice for hunters covering ground in pursuit of big game. The adjustable open sights give you a backup to optics, and with a one-piece scope rail already installed, this rifle is ready for whatever glass you want to mount. Its 99% original finish, excellent bore, and clean mechanics speak to light use and careful storage, while the inclusion of the original box and accessories adds value for collectors.
For hunters, this 673 is a capable field rifle that will serve equally well in timber, mountains, or open country—particularly if you handload for the 6.5 Rem Mag to maximize its potential. For collectors, it represents one of Remington’s more distinctive modern production rifles, a short-lived model that will never be made again. This example’s excellent condition, matched bolt, and completeness make it a top-tier find for anyone looking to add a near-pristine 673 to their safe.
