Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “ANSCHUTZ MODELL 1516 / -CAL. .22 MAGNUM-”. The left side of the barrel has proof marks and year of manufacture. The left side of the receiver is marked “MADE BY J.G. ANSCHUTZ GMBH, WAFFENFABRIK, ULM/D. WEST GERMANY”.
Sights/Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded post set on a serrated ramped base, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-down adjustable U-notch sight. The receiver has a Lisenfeld 4×32 scope mounted in 1” rings mounted to it.
Stock Configuration, and Condition: The stock is one piece monte carlo checkered walnut with semi pistol grip, and serrated plastic buttplate. There are two sling studs and sling rings front and rear. There are a couple minor compressions and nicks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8” from the front of the front set trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall the stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but some dust from storage is present. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 99% of its finish. There is light operation wear. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall the rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: This rifle comes with its factory detachable magazine, in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This Anschutz Model 1516 is a classic West German precision bolt-action rifle chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire. Manufactured in 1970 during Anschutz’s golden era, this rifle showcases the company’s legendary craftsmanship and engineering prowess. Built on the renowned Model 54 action, it features a 24” barrel, hooded front sight, flip-notch rear sight, and a period-correct West German Lisenfeld 4×32 scope. The walnut Monte Carlo stock with sharp checkering and factory set trigger adds both elegance and functionality to the platform.
The rifle retains about 99% of its original finish and appears to have been very gently used and carefully stored. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no signs of erosion, making it a fine candidate for small game, precision target work, or collecting. With a crisp trigger, smooth action, and period optics already mounted, this Anschutz 1516 is ready to shine in the field or as a centerpiece in any rimfire collection.
