Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock and forend are a two piece checkered walnut furniture set. The stock is a straight hand grip, straight comb, with a black plastic Browning buttpad. The stock wood shows surface level scattered lines and a few small compressions. There are no visible chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 14.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock has a slight right handed cast. The drop at comb is 1.5” and the drop at heel is 2.5”.  The buttplate shows minor rub wear. The forend is a checkered, Schnabel, thin profile style forend. The forend likewise shows scattered lines and compressions with no chips or cracks. There is a notable marr on the left side.  Overall the wood on this shotgun is in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued barrels, receiver & Gold Toned Trigger

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The smooth bores are mirror bright with no erosion. They show some barely visible lines from use with some very minor plastic fouling that should be easily removed. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.75/10.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The barrel set shows some rub wear from the forend that is covered when assembled. The balance of the finish shows a few minor scattered marks. The top tang shows rub wear under the safety. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and the pins are clean. Overall, this gun rates in Very Good+ to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The shotgun features a single selective inertial trigger and ejectors. The barrels lock up solidly. The safety does not engage automatically when the action is opened but does function properly when engaged manually. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun includes the five chokes, choke wrench, tube locks with key, manual, paperwork, and hi viz kit.

Our Assessment: The Browning Superlight over-under in 16 gauge is a refined, fast-pointing shotgun designed for nimble handling and long days afield. With 26″ barrels and Invector choke compatibility, it provides an ideal balance of quick swing dynamics and adaptable shot patterns, especially for upland game. The gun’s straight English-style stock and Schnabel-tipped forend enhance control and encourage a natural, instinctive mount. Weighing just over 6 pounds, it’s extremely comfortable to carry over varied terrain while still offering enough heft to manage recoil.

This particular example has been fitted with a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight for increased visibility and faster target acquisition in a variety of light conditions, while the original silver bead sight remains included, offering the option to revert to a more traditional look. The Superlight’s understated elegance, quick handling, and practical enhancements make it a favorite among upland hunters who value both performance and classic styling in a field gun.
