Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-line warning. The left side of the barrel is marked “1894 COWBOY LIMITED” followed by “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / *****MODEL 1894CB – CAL.45 COLT*****” and is also marked with the “JM” proof. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 24”, Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade with a serrated face, dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is an invertible u/v-notch semi-buckhorn elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled, tapped, and filled holes.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered American walnut with a straight grip, straight comb, Marlin checkered hard rubber buttplate, capped forend, and Marlin “bullseye” in the belly. There are compressions, scratches, nicks, and draglines scattered about the stocks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operation wear. There is thinning on the leading edges and muzzle. The loading plate has loading wear. There are scattered scratches and minor nicks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. There is some minor oxidation on the receiver. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a receiver-mounted cross-bolt safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

With its 24” octagonal barrel and full-length magazine tube, it perfectly captures the spirit of the Old West while delivering the accuracy, reliability, and robust construction that Marlin is known for. The deep bluing, straight-grip walnut stock, and classic semi-buckhorn sight setup make it a pleasure both to handle and to behold.
This rifle was made in 1998 and sports the highly respected “JM” barrel proof, indicating manufacture in Marlin’s North Haven, Connecticut facility—before the Remington acquisition that many aficionados feel marked the end of the company’s golden era. With sharp rifling, smooth cycling action, and only light wear, this example is well suited for either spirited range use or display.
