Our Assessment: The 1946 Winchester Model?70 chambered in .250–3000 Savage with a 24? barrel is a beautifully balanced example of mid-century American hunting rifles. Built just post-World War II, it carries the classic controlled-round-feed action that earned the Model?70 its reputation as the “Rifleman’s Rifle.” The bolt cycles smoothly and the two-position safety provides secure handling in the field. The 24? barrel offers an ideal blend of accuracy and handling, while the .250–3000 Savage cartridge delivers flat shooting and mild recoil—perfect for medium-game. The rifle typically features a traditional hardwood stock with elegant proportions and a deep blued steel finish. As a C&R-era firearm, this Model?70 is as much a piece of American sporting heritage as it is a dependable hunting rifle. Make sure to inspect our detailed pictures to get a better idea of the firearm. -C.R.
