Our Assessment: The Mauser P.38 was Germany’s attempt to modernize their military sidearm during World War II, moving away from the more costly and mechanically complex Luger. This particular example was produced in 1942 and bears the “byf” manufacturer code used by Mauser Werke during wartime production.

The “byf 42” marked pistols were made at a time when German forces were fully engaged on multiple fronts, making these mid-war examples historically significant. It also features the correct “WaA135” Waffenamt military acceptance stamps, confirming its issue to the German military. Surviving wartime Mauser P.38s in this condition are increasingly sought after by collectors.

This is a solid representative of a mid-war P.38 and a great addition to any collection of WWII military sidearms. With strong finish, clean grips, and intact markings, it remains both collectible and mechanically sound. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid! – M.C.
