Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed into a hooded, textured, ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding invertible u/v-notch sight with white triangle aim reference and fine elevation adjustment. The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled. The receiver is installed with a vintage Weaver K4 60-B Rifle scope with fine crosshair reticle via Weaver Pivot Mounts. The sight picture is clear. The scope rates in Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with pistol grip, fluted straight comb, Pachmayr White Line ventilated rubber buttpad, and sling swivels front and rear. The checkering is defined, generally worn at the peaks. The stock shows light wear from handling and storage. There are some areas of finish loss. There are some minor scrapes, scuffs and scratches. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. This stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt has a matching serial number.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete throughout with some light thinning on the leading edges. The screw heads are sharp. There are some minor tool marks on the sides of the barrel under the rear sight. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions Correctly. The manual safety functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its scope as mentioned above and a leather sling in Very Good condition. The leather is still pliable with no significant rips or tears outside of three of the adjustment holes being ripped on their sides.
Our Assessment: This 1945 Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle is a beautifully preserved and highly desirable example of one of the most celebrated American bolt-action rifles ever produced. As a late-war, early post-war production rifle, it comes from an exceptionally scarce production year—only 924 Model 70s were manufactured in 1945, making this rifle a true rarity among pre-64 Winchesters. These rifles marked Winchester’s transition back to civilian arms production after WWII and are prized by collectors for their limited numbers and historical context.
Chambered in .30-06 Springfield—the quintessential North American big-game cartridge—this rifle is as practical as it is collectible. It retains about 97% of its original blue finish, with only minor thinning and light handling wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating a strong 9.5/10. The walnut stock shows light handling wear and is fitted with a Pachmayr White Line ventilated recoil pad for added comfort. The rifle is topped with a vintage Weaver K4 60-B scope mounted in classic Weaver pivot mounts, providing a clean, clear sight picture while preserving the rifle’s vintage charm.
