Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / ****MODEL 336CB – CAL. 38/55 WIN.****”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked “JM”. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “01025331”.
Barrel Length: 24” Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top tang is installed with a Marble’s Tang Sight. The top and left side of the receiver are drilled, tapped, and filled for sight options.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with a capped forearm, checkered straight grip, straight comb, and a black checkered Marlin hard rubber buttplate. The Marlin bullseye is present in the belly. There are no significant imperfections, just a faint mark here and there. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no operational wear. The finish is strong and complete throughout. The lever shows a very faint plum hue. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety lever is present. There is also a crossbolt safety on the receiver that blocks the hammer from hitting the pin. The lever extends slightly past ninety degrees in the open position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 336 is a lever-action rifle and carbine made by Marlin Firearms. Since its introduction in 1948, it has been offered in a number of different calibers and barrel lengths, but is commonly chambered in .30-30 Winchester or .35 Remington, using a 20- or 24-inch barrel. This is a beautiful Marlin 336CB manufactured at the very end of the 20th century, in the year 1999. It is chambered in the ever popular .38-55 Winchester, making this rifle a rare find! This rifle appears to have seen hardly any use in the field yet was very well kept, in about Excellent condition.
