Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “REMINGTON RAND INC. / SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A. / FJA / P / 3” The right side of the frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY / No 926869”, “M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY / NO. 1387738” . There is a Springfield stamp on the right as well as an “L” on the trigger guard.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a fixed square-notch.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The pistol has a set of brown checkered grips, typical of wartime production. The left grip is made by Colt, and the right grip is made by Keyes Fibre. The grips are in good condition, showing light wear with no significant chips or cracks. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: Two detachable 7-round .45 ACP magazines. The first is an M.S. Little magazine that is blued with uncracked lips and is in Very Good condition. The second magazine is Colt’s older, two-tone magazine, but unfortunately has cracked feed lips.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original frame, refinished slide
Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is defined with light wear. There is light erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7.5/10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 75% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows moderate handling marks, and some finish thinning on the high edges. There are minor scratches and moderate operational wear present. The barrel has most of the finish worn off from operation. The screw heads are sharp, and the markings remain crisp and legible. Overall, this pistol rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide cycles smoothly, the safety and trigger operate as intended, and the magazine locks securely. The trigger breaks crisply and the slide to frame fit has some light play. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Between 1942 and 1943, Remington Rand manufactured approximately 877,751 of these pistols, making them the largest producer of M1911A1s during the war. Unlike their typewriter business, Remington Rand’s firearms were known for their quality, and their pistols are highly regarded for their wartime fit and finish.
