Our Assessment: This 1984 Ruger M77 chambered in .250 Savage is a beautiful and practical example of a classic American sporting rifle, enhanced by its rare full-length Mannlicher stock. The compact 18″ barrel paired with the .250 Savage cartridge makes for an exceptionally lightweight, fast-handling rifle ideal for small to medium game at moderate ranges. The .250 Savage, also known as the .250-3000, was one of the first commercial cartridges to break the 3,000 feet-per-second mark and has long been appreciated for its flat trajectory, mild recoil, and field performance on deer, antelope, and varmints.

Topping this rifle is a Leupold M8 4x compact scope featuring a Duplex reticle, known for its clarity, durability, and simplicity. The fixed 4x magnification is well-suited to the ranges at which the .250 Savage excels, and the compact size of the scope complements the rifle’s clean lines and balanced handling. The Mannlicher-style walnut stock not only adds distinctive aesthetic appeal but also improves the rifle’s rigidity and overall feel. This particular setup reflects a thoughtful blend of traditional craftsmanship and field-ready functionality, ideal for hunters who appreciate both elegance and effectiveness in the field.
