Barrel Length: 24” The muzzle has been crowned.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a hooded, textured, ramped base integral to the barrel. There is a blank in the dovetail on the barrel boss. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for mounting optics. The left side of the receiver is mounted with a Lyman 48WJS aperture sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece hand checkered walnut with a pistol grip, fluted straight comb, sling studs front and rear, and Decelerator buttpad. There are some scattered light draglines and a few faint compressions scattered about. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is some light thinning on the edges. There is faint operational wear. There is some pitting around the muzzle. The muzzle has been crowned to remove some of the erosion. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the top-rear of the bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is ON. If pulled back all the way, the safety is OFF. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years and has also served the country in its role as a sniper rifle. It has more than earned its nickname of “the riflemans rifle” and is one of the most iconic rifles to date. This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle chambered for the classic .30-06 cartridge and made in 1946. The rifle appears to have seen quite limited use, retaining about 98% of its metal finish with minor wear in the stock, a great bore and strong mechanics. This is a wonderful rifle and is equally suited to collecting or shooting. Ammunition for this rifle is readily available in a variety of loadings and makes for a wonderful hunting rifle.
