Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-MODEL 62-WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK-”, “.22 S L. OR L.R.-”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “61354A”. The right side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / –NEW HAVEN.CONN. – PATENTS PENDING–”. The bottom tang is marked “61354”. The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester WP proofs. 

Barrel Length: 23” round barrel

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Marble Sheard beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight dovetail has been filled with a MARBLE blank. The top tang is installed with a Marble’s tang sight. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece walnut with round 10 groove pump grip, straight wrist, straight comb, and checkered plastic buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. There is faint handling wear. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The action shows light operation wear on the magtube and action bar where the finish has worn to white. There is thinning on the leading edges. There is mottled discoloration on the bolt. There are faint handling marks throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. There is a takedown screw on the left side of the frame.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its factory box and wood cleaning rod.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 62A is a classic American rimfire rifle, renowned for its simple design, reliable pump-action operation, and the ability to chamber .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges. This example, made in 1937, retains about 95% of its original blued finish with only modest signs of honest use, such as thinning on the mag tube and mottled discoloration on the bolt. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, and the original stocks are remarkably well-preserved, showing crisp edges and very little wear. The Marble’s tang sight is a tasteful period-correct upgrade that enhances sight radius and elevates this rifle’s appeal for both target shooters and collectors.
