Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade on a textured, ramped, hooded base banded to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding U-notch dovetailed to the barrel; the notch has a white triangle aiming reference and is fine-adjustable for elevation. The top of the receiver has a rib and is drilled and tapped with rings holding a Redfield 4x scope with duplex reticle.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is a one-piece skip line checkered French walnut with a Schnabel tip forend, a Monte-Carlo comb with a cheekpiece, a capped pistol grip, and a serrated black plastic buttplate. There are sling swivels front and rear. The stock has some scattered light nicks and scratches. There is a more notable ding at the toe. There is a thin crack to the right of the sear-channel at the rear of the receiver. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear with stubborn residue in its well-defined serrations. Overall, the stock is in Good-Very Good condition.  

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 10 out of 10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some light marks on the front sight base. There are a few other scattered minor marks. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This rifle comes with the installed scope and a single 5-round magazine.

Our Assessment: This is an Anschutz Model 54 Sporter magazine-fed bolt action rifle made in 1973. The rifle features a 24″ barrel, skip line checkered French walnut stock, blued finish, and provisions for either iron or optical sights. This rifle is in Fine condition retaining about 97% of its metal finish and some wear in the stocks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. Despite the vintage of the rifle, it will likely stack up well against any rimfire gun made today.
