Our Assessment:
The FN Browning Model 1903, also known as the Browning No. 2, was a groundbreaking military sidearm designed by John Browning and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale in Belgium. Chambered in 9x20mmSR Browning Long, this pistol served in various European military and police forces during the early 20th century. With its long, streamlined slide and exposed muzzle, the Model 1903 laid the foundation for many of Browning’s later designs.
This example, serial number 29375, was likely manufactured between 1907 and 1908 during FN’s early Belgian production run. It has been arsenal refinished and imported to the U.S. with markings from Simpson Ltd. on the frame. The finish is original to import, and the serial number has been re-applied as part of the refurbishment process, a standard practice for many military surplus firearms. It retains its correct FN grips and shows strong finish retention with an excellent bore—bright with strong rifling and no visible erosion.
Collectors of early semi-automatic pistols and Browning’s pioneering designs will find much to appreciate here. The Model 1903 holds a distinguished place in firearms history, not only for its innovative mechanism but also for its widespread adoption during a transformative era in military sidearm development. This piece is a worthy addition to any military surplus or historical handgun collection. So bid high and bid firm. I highly recommend that you review the item’s condition using our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
