Markings: The left side of each barrel is marked with its respective caliber: “22-250 REM” and “7mm-08 REM.” The receiver is marked with the serial number “6963.” The Redfield scope is marked “Redfield 6x-18x.” Additional inspection and proof marks may be present but are obscured by mounted components.
Barrel Length: The mounted .22-250 Remington barrel is 24″. The included 7mm-08 Remington barrel measures 25 7/8″.
Sights / Optics: The rifle is currently topped with a Redfield 6-18x variable power scope mounted to the .22-250 barrel. Scope rings are also installed on the 7mm-08 barrel, allowing for easy swap and remount if desired. The optics are clear with no visible haze, and adjustments appear to function properly.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle is mounted in a finely grained walnut stock with checkered panels on the forend and pistol grip. The stock has a straight comb, red rubber recoil pad, and sling swivel studs. There are light handling marks and a few shallow scuffs on the belly of the buttstock. The wood retains strong grain definition and a nice luster. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore on the mounted .22-250 barrel is bright with sharp rifling and some light fouling. The included 7mm-08 barrel likewise shows a bright bore with well-defined rifling and light fouling. In this writer’s opinion, both bores rate 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle set retains about 90% of its original metal finish. There is some light finish loss on the barrel from handling and storage, particularly around high-contact points. There are faint rubs and light scattered marks but no major dings or corrosion. The receiver, trigger guard, and scope all remain in Very Good condition. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The break-action mechanism locks up securely, and the double set triggers are crisp and responsive. Barrel interchange is smooth, and the current mounted configuration is solid. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a second barrel in 7mm-08 Remington with scope rings installed.
Our Assessment: The Thompson/Center TCR-83 Aristocrat was the company’s first premium break-action single-shot rifle, designed for serious hunters and target shooters who wanted the flexibility of interchangeable barrels without sacrificing quality. This example includes both .22-250 Rem and 7mm-08 Rem barrels—two highly practical cartridges for varminting and medium game, respectively. With a clear Redfield 6-18x scope already mounted and rings ready for the alternate barrel, this set is as versatile as it is attractive. The wood is richly figured, the bores are excellent, and the double-set trigger system is an appreciated touch of refinement. Whether you’re a collector of T/C rifles or simply want a highly capable two-barrel setup, this TCR-83 is ready to impress both on the range and in the field. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition of the item in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
