Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON.” The right side of the barrel is marked “.22 LONG RIFLE CTG.” The right side of the frame is marked with the S&W logo and “MADE IN U.S.A.” The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number “696422.” The interior of the yoke and the crane are marked with assembly numbers. All serialized parts are matching. The checkered walnut grips feature the S&W silver medallions.

Barrel Length: 6”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge blade pinned to a base. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The revolver is fitted with factory checkered walnut grips with silver S&W medallions. The grips show handling wear, with light finish wear on the checkered panels and small marks on the edges. There are no chips or cracks. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.  

Magazine Quantity & Condition: N/A, revolver has a six-round cylinder.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light thinning on the edges, minor handling marks, and scattered small scratches. The screw heads are sharp, the pins are unmarred, and the markings are crisp and legible. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up tightly with minimal play. The double-action trigger pull is smooth, and the single-action break is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Smith & Wesson factory letter from historian Roy Jinks, confirming the revolver’s shipment on August 29, 1940, to Missoula Mercantile Co. in Missoula, Montana. The letter verifies the factory configuration, including the blue finish, 6-inch barrel, Patridge front sight, and checkered walnut silver medallion grips.
