Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “DIAMONDBACK.38 SPECIAL CTG.” The left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” The crane and crane cut are marked with the serial number “S85142” and assembly numbers. The model number “D5540” is written on the factory box label.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped, serrated blade integral to the ventilated rib. The rear sight is a square-notch in a fully adjustable leaf.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut with gold Colt medallions. They are in Excellent condition with sharp checkering and only the faintest handling marks.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its original high-polish blue finish. There is a very faint turn line on the cylinder that does not break the finish and a few tiny handling marks, but no notable wear. The screw heads are sharp, and all markings are clear. This revolver is in Excellent-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up tightly with minimal play. The timing is correct. The trigger is smooth in double action, and the single-action break is crisp. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the original Colt woodgrain box with matching serial number printed on the label. The box is in Very High Condition with only light edge wear. Also included are the original factory manual and other Colt paperwork.
