Our Assessment: The Colt Lawman MK V in Bright Nickel represents the very pinnacle of Colt’s double-action revolver design in the early 1980s. Intended to deliver the strength and reliability of a service revolver with a touch of style and modern lockwork, the Lawman MK V was the final generation in a lineage that began with the famed Trooper. Colt’s improved “V” spring system delivered a smoother, faster double-action pull and greatly simplified the internal mechanism over previous designs—features that make the MK V both collectible and shootable.

This particular revolver is nothing short of spectacular. Finished in factory Bright Nickel, it remains in unfired condition outside of factory testing, with its blued trigger and hammer adding contrast and elegance. It’s topped off by a gorgeous pair of original large walnut Colt grips, which show no wear and complete the gun’s display-worthy aesthetic. The revolver is housed in its original factory box with matching serial number, foam insert, and instruction manual—rarely seen complete and in this preserved state.

Adding to its prestige, the MK V series shares key internal lockwork characteristics with the legendary Colt Python, making it one of the smoothest and most robust double-action revolvers of its time. The simplified yet strengthened action provides a level of reliability and mechanical refinement that serious shooters and collectors immediately recognize. The result is a revolver that offers both beauty and absolute functional integrity—an heirloom-grade firearm with Python pedigree.

There’s no overstating the rarity of this example. Most Lawman MK Vs saw heavy use as working guns; very few were ordered in Bright Nickel, and even fewer survive in this museum-grade condition. From its untouched internals to its near flawless exterior, this revolver is not only a gem—it’s a benchmark. In this writer’s opinion, it is the holy grail of MK V-series Colts, a revolver worthy of centerpiece display in any advanced Colt or double-action revolver collection.
