Our Assessment: This Marlin Model 1893 Takedown chambered in .25-36 Marlin is a classic example of Marlin’s craftsmanship during the golden age of lever-action rifle production. Manufactured in 1906, it features a desirable and rare takedown frame, half-round/half-octagon 26” barrel, and a finely checkered walnut stock set. The .25-36 cartridge, while obsolete today, was favored in its time for small to medium game hunting and offers a glimpse into turn-of-the-century ballistics. The rifle is also fitted with an original Marlin/Hepburn flip-up aperture sight on the receiver, a quality and scarce feature that’s both collectibly significant and functionally practical.

This example has seen thoughtful preservation and restoration. The wood has been refinished, and though there are signs of use—such as scattered nicks, a minor wrist loss, and some aging to the finish—it retains sharp checkering, a solid stock fit, and about 85% of its refreshed metal finish. The bore remains sharp with minimal erosion, and the takedown action is still sound. For collectors of early Marlin lever guns, especially in takedown form and rare chamberings, this rifle holds strong appeal. It would make a fine addition to a vintage lever-action collection and is a solid representative of Marlin’s pre-WWI craftsmanship. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
