Our Assessment: This Colt Model 1911 is a classic U.S. military service pistol with World War I provenance. The receiver was produced by Colt in 1917 during one of the most intense periods of wartime production, and the Remington-UMC slide indicates a post-production replacement or reconditioning, likely through military service depots or arsenal rebuild programs. These mixed-component 1911s are part of the living history of how the U.S. military maintained and repurposed arms through multiple decades of service.
Though it has been refinished and bears mismatched parts, it remains a solid collector’s piece. The Remington-UMC slide itself is a scarcer variation, with only about 21,000 pistols produced by Remington during WWI. The combination of Colt and Remington components speaks to the logistical complexity of U.S. arms procurement during the war.
Whether you’re a collector of U.S. military handguns, a fan of the 1911 platform, or simply looking for a historically significant sidearm with genuine World War I roots, this pistol would make a fine addition to your collection. Please see our High Quality photos and good luck on your bids.-C.M.
