Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a notched iron sight dovetailed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The full-length curly maple stock is beautifully finished with bold striping throughout and intricate raised carving. The buttstock is heavily adorned with an engraved brass patchbox, toe plate, and engraved sideplates. The cheekpiece has a silver star inlay and raised floral carving. The forend is fitted with brass thimbles and nose cap, and the full-length wooden ramrod is capped with brass. There are some light handling marks, but no cracks or major losses. The stock rates in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is minor corrosion in the muzzle. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its browned finish and all brass components exhibit a rich, natural age patina. The engraved barrel flat is marked “J.T.P.” with decorative scrolls, and the decorative touches throughout—silver inlays, serpent engraving, and polished brass—reflect a high level of craftsmanship. Mechanically sound and visually striking, this rifle rates in Excellent antique condition.

Mechanics: The flintlock mechanism functions correctly and produces strong spark. The trigger is crisp and the lock holds at both half- and full-cock. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
