Sights / Optics: The front sight is a small silver bead affixed at the end of checkered thin rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood furniture is a two-piece checkered walnut set. The stock is a checkered straight hand grip, straight comb, with a black Browning butt plate. The forend is a thin profile rounded forend.  The forend is the Superposed non removable style forend. The LOP measures 14” from the trigger to the rear of the buttpad. The cast is very slightly right handed, the drop at comb is 1.5” and the drop at heel is 2.25”. This shotgun weighs 6lbs 8OZ. Upon inspection I see no evidence that this is a salt wood gun. The stock shows mild marks, compressions, and scratches scattered throughout with a notable chip on the toe of the heel. The buttplate shows very little wear for a firearm of this age. The forend shows similar wear to the stock with scattered marks, scratches and compressions. There are no visible cracks. Overall the wood is in about Fair condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The smooth bores are mirror bright with no erosion. There is some very minor visible plastic fouling right at the end of the chamber with some barely visible lines from minimal use. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.5/10.

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal surfaces of the shotgun show scattered rust freckling throughout. The barrel set shows the signature rub mark from the forend, with some scattered minor lines and nicks. Both edges of the rib show some very small scattered nicks. The markings are clean, the action functions smoothly and the lock up is tight. Overall this shotgun is in about Good+ condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly including the ejectors. The shotgun features a single selective inertial trigger. The forend is the Browning Non removable style forend. There is zero movement between the barrels and frame. The safety does NOT set automatically when the action is opened but functions properly when manually set. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This 1968 Browning Superposed Superlight Hunting Model in 12 gauge is a highly desirable over/under shotgun, crafted during the final years of FN production before Browning transitioned to Japanese manufacturing. Designed with upland game hunting in mind, this Superlight variant features a 26.5-inch barrel set choked Modified and Improved Cylinder, offering quick target acquisition and versatile patterning ideal for quail, grouse, and pheasant. With its reduced weight of just 6 pounds 8 ounces, the shotgun is exceptionally nimble in the field, making it well-suited for fast shooting over flushing birds and extended carry during long hunts.

This model also features a straight-hand English style stock, which enhances its sleek profile and promotes instinctive pointing and smooth swing dynamics. The fine walnut furniture is paired with hand cut checkering and an oil finish, adding a touch of traditional elegance to its field ready functionality. Like all Superposed shotguns, it showcases superb Belgian craftsmanship, with precise fit and finish, solid lock-up, and the reliability that made Browning’s Superposed series a staple among discerning wingshooters. This 1968 Superlight stands out as both a practical field gun and a collectible piece of Browning’s rich legacy. Please see our high quality photos via the link and best of luck with your bidding!!!-R.L.
