Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT”, features a depiction of two eagles heads, “DOUBLE EAGLE” and “-MKII/SERIES 90-”. The top of the barrel is marked “-COLT 45 AUTO-”. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT DOUBLE ACTION”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. FA., MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / DA23874”. The grip panels are both decorated with the Colt logo.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a blade with a white dot fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square-notch with two white dots dovetailed to slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grip panels are two piece checkered black synthetic and there is a black synthetic checkered back-strap. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering remains sharp. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The slide has a spot of wear on the right just in front of the dust cover Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The markings remain clear. The screwheads are unmarred and serviceable. Overall, the pistol is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single-action trigger is crisp and the double-action is smooth. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this pistol. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: The pistol comes with a blue Colt carrying case with serial-matching label, a single 7-round magazine, and an assortment of factory paperwork including user manual.

Our Assessment: This Colt Double Eagle Mark II Series 90 is a single and double-action semi-automatic pistol chambered for .45 ACP. The Colt Double Eagle line was an outgrowth of the original Colt Model 1911s with a double action mechanism instead of the traditional 1911’s single action trigger. The Double Eagles operate with the Browning/Colt short recoil system, feature a pivoting lock system that was used by the Government Model, have a decocking lever and squared off combat trigger guard. This example appears to have spent more time in its included original box than out, in Excellent condition. For fans of the Model 1911, this is a nicely made variant you do not want to miss out on.
