Markings: The left side of the upper barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN”. The left of the monoblock is marked “17845”. The left side of the top chamber is marked “INVECTOR / PLUS” and the lower is marked “28””. The bottom of the monoblock is marked with proofs. The right of the top barrel is marked “INVECTOR-PLUS CITORI SPECIAL STEEL 12 GA – 2 ¾” AND 3″”. The inside of the forend iron is marked “17845” and the inside of the forend is stamped “17845”. The top tang, under the lever, is marked with the serial number. The bottom of the frame is marked “BROWNING / Citori”. The sides of the receiver have Grade I scroll engraving. The trigger guard has a BuckMark logo.

Barrel Length: 28” Vent-Rib

Choke: The barrel is threaded for chokes and installed with Modified over Improved Cylinder.

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a bead on the rib at the muzzle. The rib is checkered for glare reduction.

Weight: 8 lb., 1 oz.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut with a round bottom pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and Browning brown rubber buttpad. There are some scattered scuffs, compressions, dings through the finish, and scratches. Some of the most noticeable are on the sides of the wrist at the receiver and belly of the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures approximately 14 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the brown rubber Browning buttpad and 13 1/4″ to the wood. The drop at comb is approximately 1 5/8″ and 2 3/8” at heel. The cast is about neutral, slightly off. The pad has light handling wear. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with no erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is mottled finish loss and thinning on the receiver, most noticeable on the bottom. There are some little spots of surface frost on the receiver. Some of the finish on the receiver has gone plum, most noticeable on the bottom. There are a couple of scratches on the receiver, most noticeable on the top to the left of the lever. There are some scattered little oil marks, some of the most noticeable are on the barrel set. There is some mottled finish loss on the trigger guard. There are a few little marks through the finish and some little spots of oxidation infrequently scattered over the barrel set. There are a few little nicks on the edges of the rib. There is finish loss on the controls. There is some light handling wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The shotgun features a single selective trigger and ejectors. The barrels lock up solidly. The safety does not engage automatically when the action is opened but does function properly when engaged manually. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Browning Citori shotguns are extremely dependable and make for great investments. The Citori was introduced in 1973 as an alternative to the highly successful Superposed model. It has been made ever since in numerous calibers and configurations filling just about any role you could think of for an over under shotgun. This is a Lightning Model from 1995 and has a 12 gauge barrel set that measures 28″ and is threaded for Invector Plus chokes. It has some wear but still looks good, plus the bores are bright with no erosion. The action is spot on and this one is perfect to shoot, especially with its threaded barrels. This ought to be a great shotgun for hunting or clay shooting for the lucky winner.
