Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years. It is reliable, robust, and accurate, it is for many the rifle by which all bolt action rifles are measured. Efforts were made to set things back to rights when it came to the Model 70 and the classic series saw the return of the lauded control-feed bolt and cut checkering as opposed to pressed. Overall build quality is improved, and the perceived cheapness of post-64 rifles is done away with. This example is the Classic Sporter model, but is no standard variant, this is the 1998 Shot Show Special Fajen Limited Edition. It has a special edition Fajen maple stock, a 26″ barrel chambered for 7mm Remington Magnum, and a Pre-64 type action. Winchester made only 336 of these pretty rifles so we are sure that a collector will swoop in and snatch this up, this is not a rifle you will be wanting to drag through the woods any time soon. Good luck and happy bidding!
