Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most iconic firearms in the world. It was the U.S. issue sidearm for the last two decades of the 19th century, used by pioneers, outlaws and lawmen across the expanding nation, and captivated audiences on the silver screen and television (and still does, today). Produced for nearly a century and a half, they are still being made today!
The Colt Single Action Army has gone by many nicknames, most popular is the “Colt Peacemaker”. America was still a wild and uncivilized country after the civil war. Many people became homesteaders, staking their claim to land to build their American dream. All too often the difference between keeping your land or losing it came down to firepower. The better gun, ammunition, and of course marksman, would win the day. When Browning’s patent for a bored through cylinder expired, Samuel Colt wasted no time in producing the pistol that would change the world. The Colt SIngle Action Army was born and became the great equalizer when it came to gun fights. It made such a difference that it was said “God created man, but Samuel Colt made men equal.”
This First Generation Colt Single Action Army has been refinished, and some of the parts have been replaced. Besides that it’s in fantastic shape for a 141 year old firearm. This is a must have for any Colt collector or firearm history lover. Good luck on your bid! -M.C.
